City of Battle Creek "Show Us Your City!" Photo Contest. The City of Battle Creek is seeking photos taken around the city for publication on its new website, which will launch in late spring. The images should represent Battle Creek's unique character, diversity, energy, and spirit. We are looking for representations of Battle Creek's: Parks and landscapes, lakes and rivers, in all seasons, local events, festivals, celebrations, culture, entertainment, art, dance, music, people at work, play, and leisure in our city, architecture and buildings, neighborhoods and history. The Battle Creek VA Medical Center has been selected to host a National Salute to Veteran Patients Valentines for Veterans Concert featuring Lee Greenwood, renowned country music artist.  The concert is an expression of appreciation and support from the VA and the community. The concert will be on Monday, February 15 at 7 p.m., at the WK Kellogg Auditorium, 50 West Van Buren St, in Battle Creek. Tickets for the concert are no longer available from the Medical Center.  Listen to WNWN 98.5 radio station for opportunities to obtain tickets.  If you are not able to get a ticket in advance, seats may be available the night of the concert at 6:55 pm.  Please arrive at 6:45 pm and wait in the lobby for instructions.
The City of Battle Creek is pleased to announce its' new e-Supplier portal! To better serve you, beginning on December 18, 2009 vendors will have the ability to go on-line and view purchase order history, invoices and payments from the City of Battle Creek for the last twelve months. Vendors can check account information for accuracy, review current purchase order balances and see status of invoices they have submitted for payment.

Visiting Battle Creek for the first time? If you are coming from the east or west on I-94 to M-66, be sure to take the downtown Battle Creek exit going north, not south. An error with several online map services, including MapQuest, Yahoo Maps and Google Maps, has sent drivers south on M66 instead of north. The City of Battle Creek completed a $4.3 million energy savings project in 2008, encompassing a biomass boiler system to heat City Hall and the Police Department, an extensive retrofit of pedestrian and traffic lighting to LED technology and building systems overhauls at City Hall and the Police Department. Battle Creek residents now have a free, convenient solution for responsibly recycling compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and batteries right from their home, thanks to a new program the City of Battle Creek launched April 21. “Battle Creek is the first city in Michigan to provide residents with this important and innovative service, making our community greener,” said Battle Creek Mayor Mark Behnke. “This program brings recycling right into local homes; it can’t get any easier than that.”

The City of Battle Creek has developed CrimeSearch, a website that connects accurate GIS maps with police database information and made this site available to the public this week. Visitors can search for information about calls for service or tickets and generate a map showing the location of incidents and basic information about the police report. Links to the site are located on the Police Department, Neighborhood Services and Planning Department pages.
