The Police Chief reports to the City Manager and is responsible for all law enforcement activities in the City, as well as Bedford Township, covering an area of over 65 square miles. The department consists of 119 sworn, police personnel and 20 support personnel.

This office is responsible for seeking and managing alternative funding for the agency.  This office plans and organizes the implementation of special projects with the community and within the department as directed by the Chief of Police.  This office is under direction of the Chief of Police.

This Division coordinates all uniform personnel, including patrol supervisors and patrol officers.   Lieutenants for the South Sector, North Sector and Central Sector supervise the three daily shifts and maintain these specific geographic responsibilities.  Responses to 911 calls for service, COPS officers, Emergency Response Team, Bomb Unit, and Evidence are all the responsibility of this Division.

The Investigative Division consists of the General Investigations Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Forensic Science Unit, and the Calhoun County Cold Case Homicide Team.  The Investigative Divisions' primary responsibility is to provide follow up support for: complex criminal investigations, forensic lab services, undercover operations and other law enforcement missions not principally related to answering calls for service. This division is primarily composed of plainclothes personnel.

This unit is responsible for meeting the training and recruiting needs of the department.  The department maintains the State of Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).  Please contact this office if you have training or recruitment questions, or would like an information packet sent to you.

Office of Professional Standards

This office receives and investigates complaints about police personnel.  All complaints are thoroughly investigated with the goal of assuring that residents received appropriate, professional, and courteous police services.  Citizens are welcome to stop by the department or call the Office of Professional Standards with concerns. This office is also responsible for recruiting new professional police officers.  This office is under the direction of the Chief of Police.

The Police Records Management Services Division encompasses a vast array of customer service opportunities.  Our goal and mission is to provide professional, accurate and effective support to the Battle Creek Police Department, the criminal justice community and the public.

The primary responsibility of this Division is to provide planning for mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery to emergencies and/or disasters within the City. Other functions include managing the County wide communications and public warning infrastructure, severe weather identification, detection, and reporting program, search and rescue team activities, and deployment and coordination of the City's Mobile Command Center (HIPPO). This Division is under the direction of the Chief of Police.
